Browse or place a custom order

Browse our digital showroom for in-stock and incoming vehicles, or use our Custom Order form if you have something specific in mind. We'll source it through our import network.

Step 02

Reserve your vehicle

Once you've identified your vehicle — in stock or incoming — we confirm the details with you and secure it under your name. A deposit holds your spot for transiting vehicles.

We prepare the vehicle

On arrival (or immediately for in-stock), we carry out a full pre-delivery inspection. The vehicle is cleaned, checked mechanically, and made ready for NZ roads.

Registration & compliance

We handle the full NZ registration process: fitting New Zealand number plates, obtaining a current Warrant of Fitness (WOF), and calculating your initial Road User Charge (RUC) distance licence.

Drive away

Your vehicle is fully registered, warranted, and road-legal. Drive away with our 1-year mechanical and battery warranty, plus a 3-month dealer warranty covering everything else.

Vehicles In Transit

Securing a vehicle that's on its way.

When you purchase a vehicle that is currently in transit — either shipped from Japan or en route within New Zealand — the process differs slightly from an in-stock purchase.

10% deposit to secure

A 10% deposit is required to formally secure a transiting vehicle in your name. This holds the vehicle exclusively for you and covers any pre-arrival preparation costs.

4–6 week timeline

From the time your deposit is received, most vehicles are prepared, complied, and ready for delivery within 4 to 6 weeks. We keep you updated throughout.

Balance on delivery

The remaining balance is due upon delivery. At this point your vehicle is ready, complied, and registered — simply pay the balance and drive away. Finance and bank transfer options are both available.

* Shipping and transit timelines are estimates and may be subject to delays outside EV Quest's control, including port congestion, weather events, or customs processing. We will notify you promptly of any changes to your vehicle's expected arrival date.

Road User Charges

RUCs — what every EV owner needs to know.

Unlike petrol vehicles, EVs in New Zealand do not pay fuel excise duty at the pump. Instead, EV owners contribute to road maintenance through Road User Charges (RUCs), purchased in advance as a distance licence.

How RUCs work

You purchase a RUC licence for a set number of kilometres (e.g. 1,000 km). The licence is recorded on your vehicle's RUC odometer and must be renewed before it expires.

Current rates

RUC rates for light EVs are set by NZTA and are currently lower than the equivalent fuel excise for most petrol vehicles — EVs remain cheaper to run overall.

Purchasing a licence

RUC licences are purchased online through the NZTA website or at any AA or PostShop. You'll need your vehicle's RUC odometer reading to buy the correct licence.

As part of our delivery process, we calculate and include an initial RUC licence with every sale so you can drive away on day one without any admin.

Charging

Charging at home
& on the road.

New Zealand's charging infrastructure is well developed and growing fast. Most EV owners do the majority of their charging overnight at home — it's cheaper than petrol and takes no more effort than plugging in your phone.

Home Charging

Level 1 — Standard plug

Plug your EV into any standard NZ 230V household outlet using the supplied cable. Adds roughly 10–15 km of range per hour. Best for overnight top-ups if you drive low daily distances.

Level 2 — Home wall charger

A dedicated 7kW wall charger installed by a qualified electrician. Adds 40–60 km per hour — a full charge from flat typically takes 6–8 hours overnight. We can supply and arrange installation.

Charging cables & adapters

Most Japanese import EVs use a Type 1 inlet for home and wall charging, and CHAdeMO for public DC fast charging — both ports are typically present on the same vehicle. We can advise on cables and public charger compatibility for your specific model.

Public & Fast Charging

DC fast chargers

Public DC fast chargers (50kW–150kW) can add 100 km of range in as little as 20–30 minutes. Found at motorway rest stops, supermarkets, and service stations throughout New Zealand.

New Zealand has a well-connected public charging network including ChargeNet, Meridian, and Tesla Superchargers. Coverage is strong on all major State Highways and in urban centres.

Japanese Imports

Sourced from Japan — built to last.

The majority of our stock is sourced from Japan, where EVs are well-maintained, low-mileage, and subject to strict roadworthy standards. Here's what to expect.

Dual-language infotainment

Some Japanese-import vehicles have a combined English and Japanese interface on the audio unit and dashboard display. This does not affect any core vehicle functionality — navigation, climate, and driving systems all work normally. Many owners find Google Translate's camera feature makes the Japanese menus easy to navigate.

English conversion available

If you'd prefer a fully English interface, we can arrange a unit swap or software conversion. Ask our team at the time of purchase and we'll provide a quote. In most cases it's a straightforward and affordable upgrade.

Pre-export inspections

Japanese domestic vehicles go through strict shaken (vehicle inspection) standards before export. Odometer readings are certified, and service histories are typically available. You're getting a vehicle that has been genuinely well looked after.

How an EV works

Electric vehicles use one or more electric motors powered by a large battery pack instead of a combustion engine. Fewer moving parts means less maintenance — no oil changes, timing belts, or exhausts.

Modern EVs typically offer 200–500 km of real-world range on a full charge. Range varies by speed, temperature, and load. For most NZ drivers, daily driving is well within a single charge.

Cold weather & range

Battery performance can reduce in very cold temperatures. In New Zealand's mild climate this is rarely a significant issue, but pre-conditioning your vehicle (warming it while still plugged in) helps.
